Did I miss a retcon somewhere?

According to Star Lord, the Knights of the Inner Sphere use a red with silver color scheme as you can see on the cover. The Knights logo is a sword running down a shield with an eagle on it.

Now camospecs says the Knights color scheme is a white with gold or a white with silver. A different logo is also used for both Knights. What was the reason for the change?

Re: Did I miss a retcon somewhere?

I wouldn't call it a retcon as much as two different authors working on related items at the same time and it wasn't caught it editing. The published dates are within a year apart. It could be that emblem was changed during the delevopment of the field manual and Phillips did get the information in time to make the change. Judging by how many other referense to the FM scheme, I'd say the Star Lord description is probably wrong.

A pity imo because that version sounds more appealing to me.

Re: Did I miss a retcon somewhere?

how about this explanation

the color scheme and crest is for the entire knights orginization

the white and gold is specific to the gold knights
the white and silver is specific to the silver knights

and if there was a bronze (3rd regiment) their unit specific colors would likely be white and bronze

Re: Did I miss a retcon somewhere?

You could argue that the false knights' actions in Star Lord damaged the reputation of the real Knights (as was their intention). To distance the real knights from the perpetrators, they may have dropped their earlier colors as shown on the Star Lord cover, and adopted the new one now available on CamoSpecs.

Frabby's idea sounds plausible.

I have to admit, the red with silver paint job sound a bit more appealing somehow.

What paint job was described in Ideal War since that was the first use of the Knights in the field?

Sadly, I never found a copy of that book. It would be nice if I could.

Which marks you as a member of the target group for the wiki article on sarna.net that my exceedingly humble self wrote on the subject of the novel Star Lord.  Azn
