Hotz Mats, are they worth it?

I thinking of ordering some game mats with 1 1/2" hexes from hotzmats.com.

Has anybody experience with this company?
How is the quality?

No!  Buy HeavyMetalMap!

I think Charlie Tango has a few.  I prefer to make my own using FastSigns or another large format printer and my own artwork.

Re: Hotz Mats, are they worth it?

I have one that I use for Grinders using MW figures and I love it.  The quality is top notch.  It just looks great.  The only downside I see is the wait time since each mat is custom made to order.  I ordered my Mat on April 7th and received it in the mail on May 10th (Eric does say it can take up to 4 weeks to ship, so he kept his promise actually).  Otherwise, I am thrilled with my purchase and am buying another one soon.

Re: Hotz Mats, are they worth it?

I have one.
Not use which doesn't line up.  My 2 inch Hex Grid Template by Litko or my 2" Hex Hotz mat.
But it's a good mat.

I haven't tried MondayKinghtProductions though.  I was thinking about ordering some of thier 'second' or flawed mats.

I've got 2 both are top notch; I use one as the base for heroscape stuff, The other is standard 1' hex that I use colored foam sheets cut out to represent woods water and such!

Re: Hotz Mats, are they worth it?

I bought a couple hoping to make use of them for photos... Can't complain about quality, but they didn't work out for my purposes (hexless space mat specifically - the camera picks up the red in the dye and turns all minis pink) and I had to chase the guy for months to get my order filled. It may have been an exception, but it was not a good experience.

I do... I have two Hotz Artworks 1 1/2" fullsize maps (4'x6' maps), one in the desert color, the other in the green.  They work tremendously well and are very durable without the "flockiness" that I have seen in other maps.  The line print quality is excellent and they have survived being rolled, crushed, packed in with terrain in boxes and have always bounced back nicely.  They were used for a couple of events at this past GenCon and recieved favorable reviews.

I ran into the same problem as Psycho did with the order on my 2nd map.  The 1st one arrived very promptly but it took some time and some prodding to get my  second order filled.  That was Fall '07 so hopefully their issues have been woked out.  I found them very good to deal with otherwise.

EDIT:

Pictures of both in use in this thread: http://www.classicbattletech.com/forums/index.php/topic,43101.0.html

This is their commander?

Re: Hotz Mats, are they worth it?

Hmmm...looking at all these pics, I'm interested in looking into them, possibly getting one for MW scale CBT.

Could someone PM me a link to a site where I can buy them?  Thanks.  Wait, am I allowed to ask for links?  If not, then sorry!

Do you think they are ok to have mailed folded, or spend the extra 10 for rolled?  Im asking b/c I'd be concerned about permanent creases or even just 'waviness' from where the folds were in packing?

I got mine folded, and they did have a little "waviness" but it does smooth out, and the folks at Hotz do include a helpful little instruction sheet about how to use an iron to get any creases out.

I agree with CT, I got mine mailed folded.  After a few gaming sessions and a few months in storage rolled in a tube from Staples I can't even tell it was ever folded.

Re: Hotz Mats, are they worth it?

I'm actually pretty annoyed with them right now.  I ordered my map Nov 13th and other than the initial email I've heard nothing.  It's been over 2 months, haven't gotten the map and they haven't responded to the emails I've sent asking for order status.

Probably won't order from them ever again.  Angry

I actually ordered a new map in December and haven't gotten a reply from Eric either, now over a month after.

I had the same problem with my first mat, but he eventually responded to me. Obviously, I don't know what you ordered, but from what he said, he waits until he has a certain amount of orders for a type of mat and then he cuts the fabric. My first mat took maybe 3 months to get. The second was a few weeks. I love them.

I ordered a 2" hex 1/2 map.  I'd have no problems with waiting if he'd respond to my emails letting me know what's going on.  It's the not knowing that's annoying me.

that's very poor customer service, it sounds like the guy just doesnt care that much. I've recieved multiple shipments from mondayknight in a professional and very timely fashion. Also you can match the mondayknight mats to woodland scenics flock so you have a seemless transition.

hotz mats just arent that good.

Yup, don't know if I'll order from them again as a result of this.  Not worrying about it right now as I'm making terrain to use with the map.  Afro
