What happened in Vegas, STAYS in Vegas!!!
|
It seems to me that the Word of Blake has actually given a good turn to the peoples of the Crucis March, all things considered. For most of the people, they've given them not only protection after centuries of raids and warfare, but improved standards of living. Most of the planets joined willingly or semi-willingly, and as far as we can tell the WoB has done right by them... establishing a real military militia totally dedicated to their defense... investing trillions of dollars into the economies... bringing law and order where in some cases there was none. They seem to be doing very well by the locals, as far as can tell. Now there are rumors of re-education camps of course, but we can assume that they only apply to POWs and probably severe criminals... and we've seen nothing to assume the WoB take any sort of Orwellian / totalitarian hand in governance... if Terra is an example, it seems to be mostly live and let live domestically. They even have a interstellar radio station with a smexy lady playing smooth easy listening How cool is that? I know the Wobblies are the boogiemen, evil incarnate, baddies with a moustache... but most of them aren't. When you stop and look at it, most every faction is responsible for treating their people rather poorly and putting them second to the desires of the State... the Protectorate seems to value their people a lot more than most any other faction. They seem like a good government. What do you think?

I support it, and I think everybody, EVERYBODY should have the chance to be a part of the Protectorate!

I gave a tentative yes... though not for quite the same reason most might. I can see divorcing the Protectorate from the Jihad, but taking the Master and radicals out of the picture is not really necessary. After all, the approval to offer membership, as well as the guys running the entire show anyway include those very people, the whole viewpoint that they are "evil bastards trying to take over everything" is just as much propaganda as truth, in some ways even more so the propaganda side of it all.

I'd be all for it. But as a Blakist I'm probably biased.

I'm all in favor of a non-Blakist, Terran nationalist polity. And I'm due to get one in about four years, game time.

Capellan, and thus obviously infallible

The only way I'd support them is to an early grave. As long as they hold any Capellan planets, I will not truly be their friend.

The Knights will live for ever!

Taking in count the general situation of most Chaos March planets prior and post breaking of the FC and the creation of the CM, i think the Protectorade bring a lot of lot things and improvements to those planets, and support should be generally high.
At least until the Blakist atrocities become public and confirmed for everyone.

On the one hand they are murderous zealots who use WMDs and internment camps and then when it comes to the protectorate they are these benevolent rulers who actually helped the people on these planets (for the most part it seems).

I voted no. Frankly, I'm biased. I want to see former FWL worlds back in the league. But even without my relations to House Marik, I simply can't trust a protectorate run by the robes. Sure, the Great Houses don't tread their people well - at least not all the time. And the Clans are a threat to the IS as ever. But even a WoB Protectorate without the madmen is like ComStar to me: Unpredictable and surely not trustworthy.

I'm pro Terran all the way baby! But the Protectorate? I suppose it is better than the Republic of the Sphere, I just didn't like the concept. Aside from giving the people a few more crumbs what else has the Protectorate done to empower the people of the old Hegemony? I mean the Federated Commonwealth used us as a road, the Terran Corridor, which likely resulted in some improvement thanks to Davion Steiner trade but besides a few road signs we got no say or representation. While the Protectorate does encompass the Terra's border more completely but we seem to be an occupied people under the heel of a madman. I can't get that excited about swapping the Usurper for the Master. Sorry!

Well, isn't this why we have the formation of the Republic of the Sphere? While I'm not clear on how the final act ends, it does look to shape up the Protectorate just reforming into the RotS.
