Hey Folks, Just thought you might be interested in this little tidbit  "BattleTech has an amazing community," said Randall N. Bills, Managing Developer. "Their attention to detail is phenomenal, enabling us to publish better books at every step. That dedication to helping create the highest quality books deserves attention." With that in mind we're formalizing the process, releasing A Time of War: The BattleTech RPG in a "Beta Release" PDF (players will notice there's no index yet, for example). We've started a thread on the www.classicbattletech.com forums at http://www.classicbattletech.com/forums/index.php/topic,58066.0.html. Until the 15h of October [end of day, PST] we'll be watching the thread to see what problems the community discovers. At that point we'll address those issues that need work and the book will ship to the printers. Keep in mind, though, that there's a difference between "error/broken" and "don't like it that way" when it comes to the rules; the prior is what well be addressing, not the latter. To help thank players for all they've done over the years--and for the help in ensuring the highest quality RPG for BattleTech--we'd like to invite all players to submit adventure seeds for potential publication. Once you've bought and downloaded the PDF, take a look at pages 347-348. You'll notice two adventure seeds there and then most of a blank page waiting to be filled with a few more dynamic adventure seeds. Anyone interested in getting an adventure seed published should generate a seed using the two in the PDF as a format guide and posting them to the thread we've started on the www.classicbattletech.com forums at http://www.classicbattletech.com/forums/index.php/topic,58067.0.html (when you post your seeds, please include your name as you wish it to potentially appear in the book if yours is accepted). Catalyst will review those adventure seeds they find most unique and fitting and will publish two or three in the book (tweaking and editing as appropriate to fit our publication style). In order to ensure maximum exposure, Catalyst Game Labs is releasing the PDF at $10 for a limited time. Once a street date for the book is determined (i.e. it's in our warehouse), Catalyst Game Labs will release the final version of the PDF, with the price returning to the standard price of $25. Let me clarify. As it mentions in the announcement, we'll be accepting 'errata' until October 15th. However, the Beta PDF will be available to purchase at the $10 price well after that time frame. Randall |

When the final PDF comes out, it says we can get our beta updated, is that going to be an extra $15 or free? At the moment, I don't care which, it's just nice not to have to buy a complete version after the fact.

PDF 10 bucks and then you get the full version when it comes out. This is the type of pricing I have wanted to see for a long time. Plus we will get a better book because when the final version comes out. I will get this as soon as I get off work tomorrow. I would stay up all night if I got it now. Thank you

Does that go for buying through DriveThru as well? I can't access Battlecorps, but this has me so excited that I'm risking using my new computer without antivirus/spyware because I couldn't wait. Either way, thanks for the cheap fix to get us hooked.  |

For starters Curse You All for releasing this just after I get my Debit Card I can't dodge not having it now and thus salvage current my MW2&3 games with the "I'm waiting for it to hit the shops" argument, I've already DL'd it and now have to keep it secret from my pack of Rabid Gamers, My group prefers RP to TT so my planed B-Tech session later this afternoon will in all likelihood become MW4/ToW even though I haven't had a chance to read the PDF or the few sections I've printed out.
But Gosh Darn I'm excited about this, one suggestion a Character Generation Work Sheet, the one in MW3 was way too useful and one in MW4/ToW will help new gamers and those Experienced Gamers trying to get the hang of the new Character Generation system, also it will keep being useful to check the Maths to make surer a player hasn't short changed them selves or accidental added a bonus twice.
Note: in three days since I got my Debit Card all my 300+ OZ bucks of on line shopping has bean on B-Tech stuff
Edit: perhaps not in the Core Book (but it would be nice if it was) but in perhaps the Companion add Early Childhood Modules of Army Brat (because why should only the Merc Affiliation get a head start on the Military life) and Gentry (because not all Officers & Mechwarriors come from the Middle and Upper Nobility).

I think this idea deserves a new nomenclature. In the past we would have said something to the effect of Win or Epic Win, Full of win. Those terms do not do justice to this however. Since this is one of the greatest things we have received from the Battletech Universe is submit this is.

I purchased the PDF several hours ago, right after I saw it on the front page but have not been able to download it.
For me it times out and ceases downloading after about 1.8Mb. I see others have successfully downloaded it. Did anyone have any issues ?
I've sent a email to the Quartermaster as I've used up 5 of my downloads already without joy.

I did first time around when I tried to DL it as a "open" PDF, but had no problems when I DL'ed it using the "Save Link As".

Normally I object to paying to be a beta tester (especially when they don't tell you - curse you, Medieval 2/Empire Total War!), but this is different, this is Battletech! And unlike some companies, Catalyst are more than making it worth our while to buy now.
Just bought it and even in the quick, frenzied skim through that I can spare time for right now, it looks awesome. It might be a beta, but this looks better than some peoples' finished product.
