From the fluff I read on the Norruff, only one was ever built, and I don't think the Vipers would share the design with us.
That was as of 3057 - they built a bunch more and used 'em in the assault on Lum, where several were captured.

Sweet. Neg. As much as I love my warships, you are essentially correct. Prior to the 3060's, inter Clan naval engagements were rare. They are essentially heavy transport and support.
Why go through a trial when there is little need of one? In regards to warships, yes they are mostly transport, except when they arent; for example the two Raven naval stars Khan Kabrinsky's command.

Ahhh, battlefield salvage. The best way out there to get new gear I'm sure we could build better on our own. In fact, I have to wonder if Quattre Belle might even be larger in scope from any shipyards that exist in clan space.

From descriptions, Quatre Belle is large enough that it'll probably take decades before it's completely reactivated...which begs the question: why did the Star League see fit to build a giant-ass naval yard in the middle of nowhere?

Maybe to have a closer facility for warships opperating on the edges of space in patrol/exploration duties

Because it wasn't the 'middle of nowhere' so much as a location that could control that whole section of the Sphere. With Terra at the center, they probably wanted things like that at the points of the compas as well to control things. What beyond Quatre Belle got built? who knows. Of course this is just a guess, but that's the way I see it.

The Outworlds may have been in the middle of nowhere, but it was a major operational theatre of the SLDF. With all the fighting that took place there and in the Concordat down through the years, they needed a repair facility in the region.

Correct. I would like to see some exploration and expansion into the Deep Periphary once we get that established. Well, after the Jihad, thinks likely will calm down (mostly) and we have to do SOMETHING while our fleet is in "mothballs". Yesh, exploration, yeah, THATS all the new hulls are for.

Well there should be plenty of worlds there that were previously colonized.

I wonder how many of those colonies are still viable. I mean, it's been a few hundred years since they were part of a nation...while some no doubt thrived, others likely died out.

Not so sound cruel, but those that did die out, mebbie there was enough infrastructure left behind to make it easier the second time.

Not so sound cruel, but those that did die out, mebbie there was enough infrastructure left behind to make it easier the second time. That is the nature of Colonization. I remember as a kid reading my first Robert Heinlein book. I was blown away. Later I found more and read them. One very simple book he wrote was called "Farmer in the Sky." It really showed the that no matter how evolved we get, colonization will always be as risky and dangerous in the future as it would be if we tried to colonize the oceans, and that the more you do it, the more infrastructure you develope, the easier it gets.

When it comes to exploration, perhaps worlds like Columbus might be opened up for ships from various factions other than ComStar to use as a port-of-call, post-Jihad? (Actually, given its location, it's surprising none of the Clans seem to have made a move on it - and even if they didn''t, it would still be a good place for an enclave, from which IS Clans like the Snow Ravens and Diamond Sharks/Sea Foxes could keep tabs on what the Homeworld Clans might be up to...)

No idea about the Bug-eyes. I think they are likely to be brought considering the rarity of their K-F drives and their usefullness in their new environment. On a slightly seperate note, I think the Ravens may become a major player in the jumpship construction industry, post-war. Many shipyards are getting trashed because they also house warship facilities. Consequently, when the shooting is done, they may control one of the few surviving facilities, assuming they can prevent Quattre Belle's destruction at the hands of the WOB. Considering the warship fleet is mothballed, I don't see Quattre Belle being used to build new warships.

I believe that there is a reference to QB in the DA novels. But why not any warships? "Transports" on a limited scale with smaller frigate and destroyer hulls being.. ahem "ideal" for system patrol. I mean, how could a nation with a weak ground force ever be able to successfully defend ourselves otherwise?

Sadly, no...It was more of an offhanded reference to the Ravens' bringing their fleets out of mothballs.

I believe it was in one of the PDAs.
That would definitely be it. I'm going to post this, because the source is available for free: 15 March 3135 Procyon, Prefecture X Posts to the Mercenary Posting electronic board Thread: The Clans/Rumor Mill/Clan Snow Raven Reactivating WarShips Poster: Coldest_Raven_432 I just got word that Clan Snow Raven has begun taking its WarShip fleet out of the mothballs. I can‘t tell you who my source is, but I can tell you that the tip-off‘s solid. The Raven Alliance is far enough away that they probably aren‘t heading for Terra, but it‘s certain that they‘re rearming and refitting all the WarShips that they decommissioned at the end of the Jihad. Not sure what they might be heading for, but if Snow Raven‘s picking up where they left off, you can bet that some of the other Clans are, too. Poster: Lancer_Jockey I gotta say you‘re crying Wolf on this one. Snow Raven‘s thinking has changed from a Clan-oriented one to a more diplomatic, Machiavellian one. If they were going to redeploy their WarShip fleet, they‘d make dang sure that no one knew about it until they were ready to strike. Poster: FistOfSkye But what if making a big deal out of recommissioning these WarShips is the means to an end? Khan McKenna could make a pretty big splash just by announcing she was taking her WarShips out of storage. What would the FedCom do if they knew that there was a whole fleet of WarShips sitting just outside their borders? Imagine the FedCom hemmed in on four sides by The Republic, the Cappies, the Snakes, and the biggest fleet of WarShips since the Star League days. It sends shivers down my spine just thinking about the Davion bastards stuck in a spot like that. Poster: victorlives i have to agree with lj on this one. there‘s no way mckenna‘d want to set herself up as such a huge target for the fedcom. if this info is legit (sorry cr432, can‘t take anything for granted anymore), then there‘s got to be some angle that mckenna‘s working. that lady‘s way too twisty to put up such flags. and you better be watching out, fos, some of us on the board happen to be fedcom. Poster: FistOfSkye I‘m so scared, victorlives. Someone who can‘t even bother themselves to use capitals is going to be mad at me for insulting the sun-blind idiots of the Federated Commonwealth? Poster: Coldest_Raven_432 I can assure you that my info‘s solid, victorlives. My data‘s as straight from the horse‘s mouth as it gets without going nose-to-nose with Khan McKenna, and this pal o‘ mine‘s never been wrong about anything like this before. Either McKenna‘s finally slipped up, or she‘s planning something much bigger than anyone could guess. As for threats, just remember FistOfSkye, just because victorlives can‘t type, doesn‘t mean he can‘t fight. Poster: CrAzYmAn So what‘s McKenna‘s move gonna be, Coldest? Is she gonna go after the FedCom, or is she gonna jump somewhere else? Way I see it, she‘s gotta be crazy to take on the FedCom, even if it ain‘t quite what it used to be. Even with the honkin‘ Snow Raven fleet, the Raven Alliance couldn‘t take mucha the FedCom. They just don‘t have enough ground pounders, even with their ProtoMechs. Poster: Coldest_Raven_432 Can‘t say that I know, Crazy. All I know is that work could get a little bit more interesting out by the Raven Alliance real soon, especially if your company‘s got serious aerospace assets.

By the way, did anyone notice that the Raven Alliance emblem - as well as the other 'new' logos shown in the 3130 PDF, such as for the RotS and the RD - all retain their sharpness when you zoom in to them? For example, the Alliance emblem at 600%: Not bad, eh?

It vaguely reminds me of the Celestial Being logo... or, at least, I could picture a sub-group of CB with a similar logo.
